| The summer is upon
us and local gardens are in full bloom. Planting
flowers at this time of year will provide you
with a beautiful garden in the fall. Following
are some suggestions for planting in July. Baby's
Breath: This delicate annual is well known as
an addition to floral arrangements. It's also
an effective "filler" plant for beds and borders.
They grow rapidly and bloom about eight weeks
after planting, so put these in now to have blossoms
in September. You can also sow them every two
to six weeks to give continuous blooms... |

On June 10, the
Thousand Oaks planning commission met to consider
a mitigated negative declaration (MND) for the
site at Newbury and Kelly Roads in Newbury Park,
where Wisconsin-based Kohl's plans to open a new
department store in March of 2003. Many community
members waited hours for an opportunity to voice
their opinions. Some individuals spoke in support
of the development, but many others expressed
their dismay over the proposed project.
Mr. Richard Messina, president of the La Cuesta
Conejo homeowners association, said, “I was not
properly notified of the meeting.” He complained
that the project would have “a severe impact on
the neighborhood, increasing traffic on the already
overloaded neighborhood streets.” He was also particularly
concerned with noise from the planned loading dock,
placed immediately adjacent to properties within
his association. Planning Commissioner Bill-de-La-Peña
pointed out that this could still be addressed at
a later hearing. Francisco Behr, an architect representing
the development, noted that a 10' high wall would
enclose the recessed loading area, providing a 14'
obstruction between the homes and the noise of the
dock. He stated that most of the objections stem
from misunderstandings about what will occur with
the development. |
